Cloud official Seiyu is Takahiro Sakurai, with Nozomu Sasaki first expressing Cloud in the video game Ehrgeiz, and his voice actor is Steve Burton.
In Final Fantasy VII, Cloud is a mercenary and self-proclaimed ex-member of SOLDIER, a select, genetically augmented military unit operating under the de facto government of the world and megacorporation Shinra Electric Power Company. Fight against Shinra in the resistance group "Avalanche" and a quarrel with the first antagonist, Sephiroth, Cloud learns to reconcile with his troubled past and adapts to his role as leader. Cloud has also appeared in several other titles outside the continuity of Final Fantasy VII. These titles include Itadaki Street Special, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Ehrgeiz, and the Kingdom Hearts series.
Cloud received a mostly positive reception by critics. Described as "symbolic", the character has been ranked highly in various published lists of characters. Cloud remains popular among fans, and continues to strongly in popularity polls. Cloud has also become the basis for a variety of merchandise such as figurines and jewelry.
